Sinus Lifts

What is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift is a procedure where we very carefully lift your sinus, to get more bone space for dental implants. Once your sinus has been lifted, we place bone-grafting materials to regenerate bone growth.

How do you determine which patients need sinus lifts?

It all begins with x-rays and a thorough examination by your dentist. Often your dentist will request a more in-depth 3D x-ray, called a CBCT (cone beam computed tomography). This special x-ray shows your sinuses in a 3-D image. With this information, your dentist will be able to offer the best treatment plan for how to lift your sinuses, and make sure that it is the right procedure for you.

Why do I need a Sinus Lift?

When considering dental implants, or if you have been missing teeth for a while, your bone level may have resorbed. This creates the need for a sinus lift before restoring your upper teeth. If your sinuses sit low to the roots of your upper teeth, we are unable to place implants because we would puncture the sinuses with the implant. Therefore, slightly raising the sinuses to make room for the implant is a perfectly safe and very effective procedure for patients who otherwise would not be able to have dental implants.
